Two guards wandered past, careless and bored. A simple distraction drew them into the bushes, and I ended them both in quick succession before either could react. As I moved through the temple grounds, one bandit stood apart from the rest. His movements were smoother, more deliberate. He had training—real experience. I decided then to isolate him. Either I would save him for last, or ensure I faced him alone, should his skill prove enough to survive more than a single strike of my silent blade. I removed several more bandits, thinning their numbers while guiding the elite one closer to where I wanted him. When the moment was right, I waited atop one of the temple buildings, sliding deep into the shadows so even an upward glance would not reveal me. I left another body just visible enough to draw his attention. He approached cautiously, knelt, and leaned in to see whether the fallen bandit slept or lay dead. That hesitation was his last mistake. I dropped from above, my weight and blade nearly folding him in two as life left his body. Not far from where he fell, I found the final page of the sacred scrolls. I secured it carefully, knowing its worth extended far beyond the temple walls. With that done, I eliminated the last of the bandits and moved through the grounds one final time, gathering mon and supplies. These resources would not serve me alone. They would be shared—strengthening my people and the people of this land alike. Tennoji Temple would no longer be a place of fear.
