In 1979 I was 15 years old and I loved watching the soap opera The Guiding Light on tv in the afternoons...My mom watched As the World Turns and The Guiding Light from the 1950s thru the 2000s and I got hooked on The Guiding Light. From the 1950s through the 2000s, my mom watched As the World Turns and The Guiding Light. When I was a teenager, I became addicted to the Guiding Light. Here is an Episode from March 5, 1979 from the old VCR VHS Tape. Featuring Roger Thorpe and Alan Spaulding. Roger has just raped Holly. Holly escapes and heads to Cedars Emergency Room. She calls Bert to look after Chrissy. Mike and Elizabeth make headway in the custody case for Phillip, but Alan and Jackie are holding steady in their resolve. Katie has a talk with Hillary about Hillary being blue. Hillary has a flashback to an argument she had with Roger about finding his gun in his desk at Spaulding Enterprises. Amanda impresses her piano teacher, and invites Ben to her upcoming recital.

On March 21, 1979 I turned 15 years old. I enjoyed watching As the World Turns and The Guiding Light with my mom who had been watching them from the 1950s. For some reason, The Guiding Light became one of my favorite TV shows and watching every day became one of my favorite past times. All through the 1950s to the 2000s, my beloved Mother watched As the World Turns and The Guiding Light Soap Operas. As I became a teenager and later into my 20s, I too found myself addicted to The Guiding Light. One of the most amazing characters I had ever seen was Roger Thorpe. The late Michael Zaslow portrayed Roger Thorpe in the show, and the term "Scandal Years" likely refers to the period when his character's actions, including slapping, rape, and other acts of violence, were prominent on the show. The character's tumultuous storylines involved him slapping Holly Norris after she slapped him, rapes Holly, and also slaps his daughter, Blake.
