Percy Faith and His Orchestra ) A Summer Place ) 1971 (Columbia/Harmony/Headliner Series US)
THE FABULOUS VINYL LIFEYou are listening to the genuine Hi-Fi stereo sound transferred from the actual vinyl record in the best possible quality. A Summer Place is a 1971 compilation album by Percy Faith and His Orchestra. Percy Faith was a Canadian–American bandleader, orchestrator, composer and conductor, known for his lush arrangements of instrumental ballads and Christmas standards. He is often credited with popularizing the "easy listening" or "mood music" format. He became a staple of American popular music in the 1950s and continued well into the 1960s and early 1970s. The music of the 1st track Theme from A Summer Place was written by Max Steiner for the 1959 film A Summer Place. The version of Percy Faith was the most popular version of the theme and was released in September 1959 as a single prior to the November 1959 release of the film A Summer Place. The single was not an immediate hit, but after it entered the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart at No. 96 on 11 January 1960, it ascended to number 1 in just 6 weeks, going on to set an at-the-time record of 9 consecutive weeks at number 1, a record that would not be broken until 1977. Theme from A Summer Place remains the longest-running number 1 instrumental in the history of the Hot 100. Billboard ranked Faith's version as the number 1 song for 1960. The Faith version reached number 2 on the UK Singles Chart, spending 31 weeks on the chart, and it was also a number 1 hit in Italy under the title "Scandalo al sole". 🔘 Side 1: The Theme From "A Summer Place" Elvira's Theme Yesterday Tara Theme Blue On Blue 🔘 Side 2: Somewhere My Love Come Saturday Morning And This Is My Beloved I Will Follow You Camelot200 views 1 comment
