Negroes in Negroland

The book, more completely titled The Negroes in Negroland, the Negroes in America and Negroes Generally..., was a compilation by Hinton Rowan Helper, an American critic of slavery in the 1850s. The work includes essays written about Black people in Africa and America. It was published in the post-Civil War Reconstruction era and is considered to contain extremely archaic and ignorant ideas about African people. It is seen as an important historical work because it sheds light on the brutal slave trade from Africa, and includes eyewitness accounts from explorers who wrote of what they saw in Africa.
