Hi, guys. This is a very common problem. And this stuff is what is called brick mold and brick would butt up against it and its finger jointed on this, on the doorjamb. You see, when I say finger jointed there are little fingers right there, or they they just take short pieces and put them together. They do this door the same way the wood is used is called poplar.

And that poplar is absorbed water very good and it is, it rots real quick. Happens a lot to very wealthy people in their fancy house. And the doors do the same thing. You can use this stuff called PVC trim. Get it, Lowe's, Home Depot, a lot of places solid plastic to replace it.
