NEW YORK CITY — Lt. Gov. Brian Benjamin surrendered Tuesday (4/12) morning to authorities — an arrest that threatens to upend New York politics and appears tied to a Harlem real estate investor, according to a new report.

Benjamin is expected to appear in court to face a federal bribery conspiracy indictment, the New York Times first reported.

An investigation by the FBI and U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York found evidence that Benjamin conspired funnel state funds to a Harlem real estate investor in return for thousands of dollars in illegal campaign contributions, the Times reported.

The campaign contributions were for Benjamin's failed bid to become New York City's comptroller, according to the report. The investor is Gerald Migdol, who was indicted in November on fraud and identity theft charges connected to Benjamin's campaign.
