החל מסתיו 2022 ילמדו תלמידי כיתות א' וב' בבתיה"ס בניו ג'רזי זהות מגדרית. כך למשל תוכנית הלימודים מנחה את המורים להגיד לתלמידים שהם יכולים להרגיש לדוגמה כמו בנות, אפילו אם יש להם איברים של בנים.
חלק מההורים מודאגים לגבי ילדיהם ושוקלים להוציא אותם מבתי הספר הציבוריים.
