Republican Behind Anti-Trans Bill Doesn't Know If There Are Any Trans Athletes In His State

While discussing anti-trans legislation regarding athletes competing in sports, Tennessee Democratic State Sen. Jeff Yarbro asks Republican Sen. Joey Hensley, one of the bill's sponsor, if he spoke to any trans people about this legislation, to which he replies no. He also asks him how many trans athletes there are in the state, and Hensley doesn't know the answer.

In addition to don't say gay and the other copycat bills that are coming across governor's desks throughout the country, which is a way to not just target trans people but target gay people but it's also a way to kind of grease the runways for the more anti-trans bathroom bills. That's gonna that's circulating throughout the country well a resurgence of those as opposed to these broad bands of trans athletes in order to continue to other them in certain high school sports because conservatives now care so much about the integrity of high school swim meets for girls. that's the number one galvanizing force, do we have any instances in our communities of trans athletes having an unfair competitive advantage in beating our girls and so they get the silver medal as opposed to the gold? No, not necessarily but we're still going to pass this anyway. I mean in Utah the Republican governor to his credit and vetoed the legislation when it first came about and I think it might have overridden his veto anyway, Bradley do you mind checking on that? Not exactly sure off the top of my head but the reason that he vetoed it was because he said there are four trans athletes in the country and only you know in my state right now and only one trans girl participating in sports so that's one person for this legislation to target them one child.
