Yet another power grab?

The United Kingdom has a long, proud, and diverse history of freedom stretching from Magna Carta in 1215, the 1689 Claim and Bill of Rights through to the 1918 Representation of the People Act

The Human Rights Act passed in 1998 codifies and protects fundamental rights and freedoms and ensures everyone, no matter their wealth or status, can uphold those rights in UK courts.

The rights enshrined in the act are core to the UK’s legacy as a democratic, fair and just nation. They’re embedded in our culture and legal system and it’s vital that these rights are not rolled back on or compromised.

However, in December 2021 the Government issued a public consultation and announced plans to overhaul the human rights act and now some of our most basic rights are at risk.

This week we are bringing you a variety of content to help you to understand the proposed changes and what can be done to help protect our Human Rights Act in the UK.

In this episode I will cover the background to the Human Rights Act reform and unpack the key issues, I will also share how you can participate in the public consultation.
