Kelty Outskirt 50 Litre Backpack. Best Budget Backpack?

This backpack from Kelty has a feature we have not seen before even though we certainly should have by now. This rugged budget friendly pack is available at retail centers only such as Cabelas, Overtons, Dicks Sporting Goods and Bass Pro Shops to name a few. Kelty makes this pack especially for them as an instore only item to give customers incentive to shop in-house. Some products from manufacturers often feature upgraded features and limited edition runs just for that reason and I believe this innovation falls in that category. This pack is well built, very light and lacks the over pocketing some packs have gone toward to try and satisfy the "stow everything" client. In reality a pack with too many pockets is like losing your car keys in a pile of leaves. You know they are there but hell if you can find them...This pack has just the right amount of exterior storage area, the right amount of interior space (so happy they nixxed the adjustable floor) and the right amenities for comfort. The straps are nice and thick while not being heavy. The waist belt is comfortable. The back plate and support frame is almost non-existent when loaded and the addition of the upper pocket for maps is a nice, "I thought of you" addition. the pack will fit those who measure 17.5-19" very comfortably I could not test outside this so I cannot say. Knowing this pack is not new but new to me makes me believe that even though I have been gear shopping and using gear for over 40 years I still need to keep an eye out. I sure am glad I spotted this one. This is a great pack. You won't be sorry owning one for years to come.
