Welcome to Takalik Abaj Archaeological National Park - Guatemala. These are Olmec and later Mayan ruins dating back to 800 BC. When I first got to the park I was just expecting to see the ruins and hopefully get some cool photos and video. I never expected the tour to turn into a journey through the past. Our guide, Mr Gregorio, was incredible and brought the history of this location to life and made me feel like I was there with the Olmec and Maya. Walking through the city I could sense the people who made this location their home, I felt the presence of children playing and daily activity of the people. The stories that each statue in the ceremonial areas told gave a sense of what these people valued. It was new birth, life, and then end of life. An incredible journey that I highly recommend and a true blessing.
