Big Falls, North Carolina -- 4K Cinematic

Big Falls is an absolutely stunning waterfall in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, in the Nantahala National Forest upon the Thompson River. The trail to the last drop down to the falls is pretty well marked and decently manicured. At the dropdown point, it becomes very small, slippery on loose soil, and hazardous. There is a portion of bouldering as well. Also, there is a river crossing, so be prepared to get wet. Wear proper hiking shoes, bring a friend, and download a map. Due to the location of these falls, they are very dangerous to visit. If you are ill-prepared and get hurt, you will be there a long time as these falls are remote and rarely visited. I would recommend only experienced hikers or people in very good shape visit these falls. IE: in 1/10 of a mile you travel 642 vertical feet. The falls themselves are huge and extremely pretty! AT YOUR OWN RISK!

This particular day on the Thompson River, we visited Big Falls, Rich Falls, and High Falls for about an 11.3-mile day with over 2k vert feet. It was a challenging day physically, but the beauty of the falls made it all worthwhile!
