The Tsukiji Market (築地市場 Tsukiji shijō) is the biggest wholesale seafood market in the world. The facility was built in 1935.
The market opens most mornings (except Sundays, holidays and some Wednesdays) at 3:00 a.m. The auctions start around 5:20 a.m and end around 10:00am. Bidding can only be done by licensed participants.
In November 2016, the market will move to Toyosu, Koto. There are plans to retain a retail markets at Tsukiji.
