Elizabeth Nightingale seemed a happily married woman with many friends and few enemies. Yet, when her body is discovered in a dark wood, Chief Inspector Reg Wexford and his valued sidekick, Inspector Burden, unearth a whole battallion of suspects with their own resentments, their own private hatreds, their own jealous passions.
