Dragon Quest II gets a lot of flack these days. Is its reputation deserved?

Dragon Quest II was developed by Chunsoft and released in 1987 by Enix for the Nintendo Famicom. It is the successor to Dragon Quest (a.k.a. Dragon Warrior), the game that kickstarted the JRPG genre, and came to the West as Dragon Warrior II for the NES in 1990. It later got a Western re-release for various platforms as Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line.
