Farm Update – Ongoing & Upcoming Projects

Between a kidding goat and planting a garden we’ve got a lot going on right now and not much video to show for it, so today I wanted to give y’all a quick update on what we’ve been doing lately. Our Nigerian dwarf doe, Violet, is getting ready to kid any day now and Megan has been working hard to make their (Megan, Violet, and kids) experience as pleasant and comfortable as possible. Megan prepared a birth kit with some essential items (video linked below) and she is also planning a kidding stall to keep our kidding does separate from the rest of the herd.

We finally broke ground on our garden but the weather just hasn’t cooperated and the seedlings aren’t planted yet. We’ll get back to that very soon, whenever we can make another pass with the tiller without making a huge muddy mess.

We plan to have some more chicken content coming out in the next couple months, including baby chickens and guineas that are in the incubator right now. We’re less than two weeks away from their grand arrival. Hatching eggs is something my family did nearly every year and I’m excited for Megan and the kids to experience this special occurrence for the very first time. I’m also going to do a tour of the chicken coop we built back in 2019. There’s plenty I like about it and plenty I don’t, so if you are planning on building a coop for your flock I hope you can take the good from my design and leave the bad. Eventually I want to build a mobile chicken coop, too, once the price of materials comes back down to Earth. Implementing chickens into a rotational grazing plan has many benefits and a mobile coop makes moving the birds very easy.

Finally, we have two antique Ford tractors that need to be brought back to life. I’ve got the itch to turn wrenches and having a tractor around the farm will be a great big help. I’m excited to share that journey with all you fine people.
