In this episode of Know Your Stuff, we interview Kimberly Nicholas, Sustainability Scientist at Lund University (Sweden) about her new book “Under the Sky We Make” (2021). We talk about the climate crisis and about her latest book. We also discuss what lifestyle changes high emitters in the Global North can do to reduce their carbon emission and why they matter in regards to systemic change. Finally we explore how to stay optimistic and what to do to not give up hope in this time of crisis.

Dr. Kimberly Nicholas is Associate Professor of Sustainability Science at Lund University. Growing up on her family’s vineyard in California, she studied the effect of climate change on the California wine industry for her PhD in Environment and Resources at Stanford University. Since then, she has published over 50 articles on climate and sustainability in leading peer-reviewed journals, and her research has been featured in outlets incl. The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, USA Today, Buzzfeed and more. In her research, she studies the connections between people, land, and climate. Her goal is to understand how to steward ecosystems to support a good life for everyone alive today, and leave a thriving planet for future generations.
