Scootering can be a mode of transportation, a tool, or even a passion. There are millions of passionate scooter riders all over the globe. These riders need a place to create, bond, and grow. OUTLIT will grow the emerging scooter community. Scooter events have been very successful in the past, but we’re here to make them even better. Our vision is to pull everyone together to create a great atmosphere that will make life-long memories for riders and spectators. OUTLIT events will be the new gold standard for scooter events. OUTLIT is a project of undialed and created by Will Cashion and Clayton Lindley.
PURPOSE of OUTLIT
OUTLIT has one purpose: to expand the scooter community by providing an atmosphere that encourages growth and bonding. OUTLIT is a unique scooter contest circuit that will broaden the framework of how scooters are perceived and ridden. The focus is on hype and creating the moments that matter.
The premise is simple. Unlike traditional scooter contests with timed, isolated runs and incredibly long days, we will host a more organic street jam-type event. Unlike a street jam, OUTLIT events will happen in skateparks. Street jams are successful because they are routes through cities that highlight unique street spots, and anyone can show up, enjoy the energy and even participate. There is no starting order, and also no dead time. Despite being a jam-style format, street jams are also popular because there is always a winner, with very little debate about it. Winning a street jam is based on your effort, and you are judged on everything, your attitude, your failures, your success, and your presence.
OUTLIT aims to bring this organic atmosphere into the park realm of scootering, bridging a gap and attracting a much wider spectrum of riders. Rather than a route through a city, we will feature specific obstacles in a skatepark. With every skatepark obstacle, there will be a time limit or a cutoff. The time will be determined by the number of people, but at any moment there can be a cutoff. A cut-off happens when someone beats the spot, meaning they do a trick so profound that it helps shape the future of scootering. Everyone wants to see that, and it’s a bonding moment when it happens. Another element that will make OutLit unique is that younger riders will have the opportunity to ride and compete against their favorite pros. The only place this happens now is at street jams. The atmosphere created when younger riders push themselves next to their favorite pros is beyond beneficial for growth and confidence.
We want to have as many people at these events as possible, and we want to make it convenient. That’s why we’ve paired up OutLit with a street jam the same weekend. We have four locations set for 2022: Raleigh, Austin, San Diego and Phoenix paired with street jams the following day. Creating a full weekend of events makes it easier on our audience and scooter enthusiasts in general, including families who may travel to attend. All four locations are family-friendly destinations with good weather: this is an incentive to parents and people who want to escape to somewhere warm. Parents are a driving force in the participation of scootering so we want to appeal to them. Scootering has formed so many connections for so many people and we want to continue those patterns. Connections are most easily made in an atmosphere that’s encouraging and loving. OUTLIT is an outlet for the energy of scootering and the progression of our sport/art.
