THD990 06 Progress

Scored a nice Century battery charger. Looks like new, works like new.

Bought a second running MTD990 with a good mowing deck. Swapped the rear tires. Like the classic look better. The "new" tractor came with wheel weights. Kept the weights for this tractor. I tuned and greased the new tractor. I gave it to my grandniece. Every little girl needs her own tractor. :)

More work on the exhaust. Works for now. Fixed the parking brake. One of the friction pads as missing. Reworked the parking brake pull lever.

I notice the head gasket was leaking. Pulled the head. Wet sanded the head on a piece of glass till the lows spots were gone. Double checked the head bolt torque.

Added a heat vent to the hood. Added a gas strainer.

After adding the gas strainer the engine would not start. After some investigation I found no spark. After some more investigation I found the insulator on the distributor electrical post was brittle and broken. Grounding the ignition. Glad it failed at home in the garage.
