BCF 325: Protecting Wealth with Clint Coons

Clint Coons is a lawyer who specializes in asset protection. He’s published numerous books and articles about protecting real estate assets. As a founding partner of Anderson law group, Clint has dedicated his life to saving money for real estate investors by protecting their portfolios.

We started by talking about Clint’s journey in the real estate industry. Clint’s been involved with real estate for his whole life – literally since childhood. He told us how he went from a framer and would-be contractor to an attorney.

Real estate protection is a surprisingly misunderstood part of being a real estate investor. Clint talked about why that is, and how he works with his firm to keep millions of dollars of assets safe, year after year. Many new investors hire run-of-the-mill accountants and CPAs to handle their portfolio’s tax needs. This is a common mistake. It’s critical to get a tax specialist who knows the real estate business, like Clint. Without this, you’re putting yourself at risk of losing everything.

Many real estate investors simply load up on insurance and call it a day. But, this still leaves you very vulnerable to lawsuits and other legal issues. Chris admits that these are pretty rare instances — most people will never get sued — but we agree that you’re better safe than sorry.
