Russian Naval Movements and Positions at Sevastopol and Novorossisk - 18th May

Russian Navy movements at Sevastopol Naval Base and Novorossisk.

A little video on Russia’s Naval movements. So, this satellite image is from 18th May and it shows Sevastopol Naval Base.

Of interest, is that five Project 775 Ropucha Landing Ships are now at Sevastapol. Four of these were at Novo ros sysk. They are now at Sevastapol, joining the Korolev—the Korolev is usually attached to the Baltic fleet, but was temporarily moved to the Black Sea Fleet in February. We also have the Alligator-class landing ship Nikolay Filchenkov. Not present, is the Orsk.

Also visible at the top of the base is Project 1135 frigate. Either the Ladnyy or the Pyitlivvy. Finally, we can also see the Alrosa—a submarine which has undergone a refit and is taking part in sea trials.

Other boats and ships currently at the base but not highlighted on the map include the Project 1239 Bora hoverborne craft—a very cool ship combing the cushion of a hovercraft with catamaran twin hulls. We also have the Ivan Antonov listed—which is a minesweeper— and a Kilo-class sub among other various ships and boats. So, a pretty active naval base.

If we take a quick look at Novorossysk—it is quite empty by comparison. One Kilo-class submarine highlighted and two cargo ships—the Sparta and Pizhma.

Hope you found this interesting—I think it’s quite interesting myself to see where the Russian Navy is and keep an eye on their movements.

A final note—we have three Kilo-class submarines accounted for, including the Alrosa. Russia has 7 apparently in the Black Sea Fleet. Of those 7, the Kolpino is in maintenance, the Krasnodar is in the mediterranean and the Novorossisysk is also in the med. The Kolpino could be one of the ones seen in Sevastapol or Novorossisyk, so we could have two currently unaccounted for.
