The little town Called Coupeville

This is a brief history of the town of Coupeville on Whidbey Island.

One of the oldest towns on Whidbey island is the small town of Coupeville it has a bunch of old historical buildings and the Island County Museum. Coupeville was named after the sea captain Thomas Coupe. Mr. Coupe was known for building and operating schooners and other boats. He and another man C.H Ives claimed the same land, Mr. coupe paid Mr. Ives off for that property eventually. It wasn't until the 1880s that Coupeville started to look like a town, the main industries were fishing, shipbuilding and timber production. Ferry service is common in the Puget Sound so it is not a surprise that there were many Ferries and steamships that operated out of Whidbey Island. The Mosquito Fleet were the first. They began in Coupeville and went to Bellingham, then in 1906 the Penn Cove to Seattle began.
