Admirality Head Lighthouse

This is a brief History of the Admiralty Head Lighthouse by Fort Casey on Whidbey island in Washington.

The admiralty head lighthouse was built in 1903 about 130 feet above sea level. It replaced the old Red Bluff lighthouse that had been there since 1861. In 1897 the US Army selected Admiralty Head as one of 3 places for the Puget Sound Defense System. Which you might know as the triangle of fire. This new lighthouse has walls 18 inches thick to withstand the shakes from Fort Casey's big guns. Eventually the lighthouse was shut down in 1927 and only came back for world war 2 only to then be listed as surplus in the 1950s by the army so then Washington state parks bought it and here it stands today.
