Mass of Black Goo Chasing Shark?

I've having trouble determining what else that possibly could have been. What other creature or mass of creatures move or behave like that. It looked more like a black mass of Xenomorphic vampiric synthetic Black Goo that was simply preying on the shark. The shark was so frantic to get out of there that it beached itself.
