Establishing the Proper Motor Patterning of Numbers 1-10 is critical for laying a strong foundation for Math. If a child writes the numbers from the bottom up, then that child is more likely to get confused on the numbers 2 and 7 as well as the numbers 6 and 9. If a child writes the eight with “two zeros” that will get him/her confused as to the numeric value of 8. This exercise will help you help your child learn to write the numbers the correct way.

Synchronize the Eye Gate, Ear Gate, and Motor Gate by what you “see, hear, and feel” while you are working on your child’s Working Memory Skills for Simple Addition Facts up to and including 10. Follow the procedure shown on the video to maximize the ideal area of the brain (the horizontal segment of the intra-parietal sulcus) for saccading eye movements, pincer grip and math calculations. Though I forgot to mention it on this video, it would be very beneficial for the child to have the non-dominant hand down flat up on the table resting quietly.
Once the child is showing progress on this concept, lay down the Bonus Cards 1-10 and do the procedure again. When you use the Bonus Cards, the child will not be able to see the written numbers at all. The child will have to look carefully to make sure he /she is pointing to the correct numeric value before proceeding with the exercise. Looking intently at the numeric value of these numbers and then pointing correctly will maximize numeracy skills (the ability to understand the numeric concept of digits by symbols.)

When your child has mastered these facts then synchronize the Eye Gate, Ear Gate, and Motor Gate by what you “see, hear, and feel” while you are working on your child’s Working Memory Skills for Simple Addition Facts up to and including 20. Follow the procedure shown by writing out the sum as you stretch out your verbalizations. This procedure is shown on the video and it too will maximize the ideal area of the brain (the horizontal segment of the intra-parietal sulcus) for saccading eye movements, pincer grip and math calculations. It would again be very beneficial for the child to have the non-dominant hand flat up on the table resting quietly.

At the highest level of Simple Addition Facts up to and including 21, you want your child to be able to add two cards in a left to right manner while laying down the cards and just saying the sum. Run through all the black cards and review with the children that face cards are worth 10 points and the Ace is worth 11 points. Model this for the child and show them how you can do this exercise. You should be across from the child and laying the cards down so the child can readily see the numbers in the ideal orientation. I can add two digits at a time and just name the sum for all of the black cards in 15 seconds. How long does it take you to do it?
