RULES:
The object of the game is to be the first player to 21 points. Pick a dealer who shuffles the topic cards and deal 5 cards to each player. Give each player 1 vote card. Gather together the number of role cards equal to the number of players playing, with one of them being a lie card. Shuffle the role cards and deal one to each player. Players may look at their role card but should keep them hidden from their opponents.
Beginning with the dealer, then proceeding clockwise, each player must pick a topic card from their hand to create a personal statement about. The 3 sub-topics on each card are there to assist players come up with ideas. The player with the Lie role must make an untruthful statement. The players with the truth roles must make truthful statements. After you make your statement, place your topic card face-up on the table in front of you.
Once every player has made a statement, each player votes for who they think is lying by placing their vote card on the topic card of the supposed liar. Players may not vote for themselves. There are no turns and you may change your vote as many times as you like until the last person casts their vote; after that, no votes may be changed. During voting, discussion is encouraged, and players may ask each other follow-up questions about their statement. You do not have to answer a question if you don’t want to.
After voting, each player reveals their role and points are scored. Any player with a truth role card receives 1 point per liar vote they received. The player with the liar role receives 3 points if no player voted for them. If you correctly voted for the liar, you receive 3 points. If no player has 21 or more points, then each player takes back their vote card, all the topic cards are discarded to a face up pile, each player draws a new topic card from the top of the deck, the role of dealer rotates clockwise by 1, and a new round is played.
If a player cannot come up with a statement from any of their topic cards, they may discard those cards and draw 5 new ones. For added complexity in large groups, play with two liar role cards instead of one. The first player to 21 or more points, wins.
