Setup:

Stake off a 5 meter by 8 meter rectangle, which is about 16 by 26ft. There is an imaginary center line in between the short ends of the field. The lines can either be marked or unmarked so long as they don’t interfere with play. Place the King upright in the center of the field. Place 5 kubbs upright, at least 1 baton distance away from each other, on each of the farthest lines, called baselines, so that the baseline runs through the center of each Kubb. Kubbs starting the game on the baseline are referred to as base kubbs. Divide into two teams with 1-6 players on each team. Tournament play requires teams to have at least 3 players though most require 6. Each side throws 1 baton simultaneously towards the King. The side with the baton closest to the king without touching it, may either pick a side to defend or pick the turn order.
