McLaren looks to embrace a hybridized future of high performance with the upcoming 2022 Artura supercar. The new mid-engine two-seater is still mostly under wraps, but we know it'll pair a twin-turbo V-6—the company's first—with hybrid technology and ride on a new lightweight platform. Although official power ratings and performance estimates are unknown, we expect the new entry-level McLaren to surpass its predecessor. That suggests its exterior and interior designs will be even more interesting than before, and it should have an array of exciting new features. Until we learn more about the 2022 McLaren Artura, we can only speculate about its specialness.

The Artura is an all-new model that will replace the McLaren 570S and debut in the first half of 2021. It'll feature a hybrid V-6 powertrain and introduce a new platform for the British supercar-maker.

The Artura will be powered by a new hybrid twin-turbo V-6 that we estimate will make upwards of 560 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. Those numbers are based on the output of the outgoing 570S, which features a traditional twin-turbo V-8. We also don't know how much more power—if any—will be added by the car's electric motor. McLaren says the new powertrain will even provide a "medium range" of all-electric operation. While we don't know what transmission it'll have, we're told the first Artura will be a rear-wheel-drive model. However, we think all-wheel drive will eventually be offered with the addition of an electric motor mounted on the front axle. The other big announcement is that it'll be the first McLaren to ride on the company's new Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA), which is said to be lighter than its predecessor's structure.
