Congressional Democrats recently introduced a bill that would extend background checks to private and unlicensed gun sales. The bill introduced by Senator Chris Murphy, titled the "Background Check Expansion Act," is widely supported by democratic legislatures and would constitute a major victory for gun control policy if passed. This initiative has sparked numerous debates within America about guns, their nature, and if people with mental illness should possess them. Mr. Watson, however, is woefully unconvinced by the reasoning that animates Murphy and Co's plan and articulates a rights-based argument against gun restrictions. He evaluates the actions of law enforcement in stopping gun crimes previously, and also asks a fundamental question: Why should one's right for self-preservation ever be up for debate?
