Mark Beard Sr., president of the Beard Oil Co. and owner of the Beard Motorsports 62 Chevy in the NASCAR Cup Series passed away at age 72, just over a week before Daytona. Beard, a former driver himself in the 80s, made the return to NASCAR in 2014 with Clay Rogers, but his first race wouldn't come until 2017, with Brendan Gaughan. The pairing soon became a threat on the Superspeedways, scoring several top 10s, and nearly winning the fall 2019 race at Talladega before a late race flip. Noah Gragson, the teams new driver, is now definitely a sentimental favorite to make the 500. Rest in Peace Mr. Beard.
