Catawba Falls, NC (Upper & Lower Falls)-- 4K Cinematic

Catawba Falls is an easy shorter hike near Old Fort, North Carolina, and a very popular hike for Asheville locals. This is an excellent spot for kids or elderly people who may not be up for a more strenuous hike. The Catawba Falls trail is wide, easy to walk, has just a few rocks, and a small but manageable stream crossing with some creek stops along the way. As you approach the Catawba Falls, the trail splits and has several roots, so wear proper footing. To the right of the falls, there is a difficult trail to Upper Catawba Falls, but that hike up is very precarious. I would recommend the Upper Catawba Falls trail for fit, in shape people or experienced hikers only. It's AT YOUR OWN RISK. The section to Upper Catawba Falls is NOT for novice hikers as it requires scrambling large rock shelves and verticle terrain.

Catawba Falls is a great relaxation spot on a hot day, however, this particular day was in January and it was a bit icy. Catawba Falls is a very popular waterfall and finding a time where you can be alone for an extended period may be difficult. Most visitors stick to the Lower Catawba Falls and do not venture to the Upper Catawba Falls. This is one of the WC 100 Challenge.
