Difficulty memorizing steps in class

you just lack experience. As a beginner you need to remember not just what to do, but also how to do it. Watch dance videos from social media. Try to remember them. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

Let the teacher break down slowly the steps bit by bit and you record it on your phone. So you can go over it at home at your own pace. Practise and ask your teacher about some issues they may have noticed

Count. I can't recommend this enough. It's hard because you are not keeping count. Count out loud when you are stepping and you will associate where your feet should be with the count. The sooner you count it makes learning moves much, much easier.

it's one part nerves/trying to get it right and two your feet and arms are not used to that movement or routine yet. Once you do it enough, your mind spends less time on the full mechanics and instead devotes more of it to the other patterns in the routine. Just keep going to class 2x minimum a week and in 3-6 months you'll be golden. Cheers.

When you see a new step I immediately try to repeat the step in my head, imagine what it should feel like if I did it and divide it into simpler parts that continously build the final step.

Practice doing the basic step at home while counting. Do it over and over. Add music but continue to count in your head. It will become second nature in time. (Also: some people find “quick quick slow” to be more helpful than “1 2 3… 5 6 7” when learning.)

Lastly understand This is completely normal. It will improve with time. Don't hesitate to ask the teacher to break down the steps more if needed.
