What to Expect on the Million Dollar U.S. 550 Highway Drive in Colorado

The Million Dollar Highway is a 25 mile stretch of U.S. 550 Highway from Silverton, Co to Ouray, CO. We started in Durango, Colorado and it took us about 2 hours one way. The drive is know for its narrow roads, steep cliffs and limited guard rails. We climbed to 11,000ft, and I would not want to be on it if it was poor conditions. We had a warm spring day with plenty of sun and perfect conditions which brought out a lot of cyclers.

If you enjoyed the Million Dollar Highway, we recommend the Beartooth Highway. It takes you to 12,000ft and delivers endless breathtaking views finishing at the entrance to Yellowstone National Park’s North East Entrance.
