There is so much data out there for both sides of the argument as to the usefulness of fathers in a child's life. As always, simple searches on Google Scholar will pull up this data and you can suss it out yourself :)
A lot of arguments circulate the idea that children will grow up perfectly fine as long as they have SOME male influence - but that doesn't need to be from a father, which is an interesting concept, because a lot of people grow up with uncles and grandfathers etc and turn into very well-rounded adults.
