Hanlon's Razor

An important philosophical concept not just for debate, but also for life. I've been accused of applying it too broadly in my personal life, but I can't say it's done me no good.

I should have mentioned a case in which a Jewish cemetery was vandalized. Is this a case of anti-Semitism? Or is it just a bunch of kids who are bored and knocked over some easily-accessed stones, and may not even know that it's a Jewish cemetery? As an "expert" in the field, I suggested, at one time, that the "wiser" bet was the latter until more information comes out. The political left immediately jumped to the conclusion that _I_ was an anti-Semite. On a great many levels, their knee-jerk reaction says more about them than it does me, and the lesson gleaned from Hanlon's Razor is what allows us to make these conclusions about their competence and their character.
