The Western media claims that Thaksin Shinawatra - while Prime Minister of Thailand - provided opportunities and hope for millions of Thailand’s poor. They claim he was a populist leader who helped usher in modern liberal democratic policies for the country.

This is - however - entirely untrue. I explain who Thaksin Shinawatra really is - how he rose to power - the abuse, suffering, and death that took place while he was in power - and through his proxies - continues to plague Thailand to this day.
