Psalm 2 Reading and Discussion

Please join us as we read and study and discuss Psalm 2.

The Stone's TaNaKh (acronym that stands for Torah, Prophets and Writings) writes about Psalm 2: No matter how powerful the force, NOTHING can thwart YaHuWaH Elohim's will. And so, we pray for YaHuWaH's will to be done on Earth as it is in the ShaMahiYM (heavens). This Psalm shows strong distinction between the leaders of the nations, and their open rebellion to YaHuWaH and His Son, and the anointed Sovereign of YaHuWaH, and His MaShiYaCx (Messiah), who own the Place. Wrath and rage are mentioned a few times, as well as the need to be wise, be disciplined and be pure.

What I didn't notice (because I was out helping with some cows for the completion of this Psalm) was in the Stone's TaNaKh, instead of saying "Kiss the Son...," it is written: "Yearn for purity..." That's two very different sounding translations. Upon further review, I found this:

From Commentary on this phrase (Elliott Commentary): Kiss the Son.—This familiar translation must be surrendered. It has against it the weight of all the ancient versions except the Syriac. Please review more at https://biblehub.com/commentaries/psalms/2-12.htm

Cambridge Bible Commentary writes this: None of the ancient Versions, with the exception of the Syriac, give this sense [Kiss the Son] to the words. They represent two views as to the meaning, (a) The LXX, and of course the Versions dependent on it, render, Lay hold of instruction: and similarly the Targum, Receive instruction... The substantial agreement of the LXX and Targum points to the existence of a widely-spread early tradition as to the sense, and on the whole it seems best to follow their general direction and render, Embrace instruction, or perhaps, obedience.
