When Gypsy Rose was 3 months old, Rod was still involved with his daughter and it was around this time Dee Dee is convinced her daughter has sleep apnea and takes her to the hospital. And this is happening repeatedly with overnight stays and sleep monitors and other tests. Yet none of this could find anything wrong with Gypsy Rose, there was no sign of the condition Dee Dee mentioned.
It only starts to get worse.
Overtime, Dee Dee becomes certain and convinced Gypsy Rose suffers from a lot of health conditions, which she attributes to an unspecified chromosomal disorder.
At some point, Dee Dee claimed Gypsy had muscular dystrophy, so she made her daughter use a walker.

According to Gypsy, when she was 7 or 8 years old, she was riding her grandfather’s motorcycle when she had a minor accident and just had an abrasion to her knee. But her mum made her use a wheelchair saying if the doctors gave her one, she has to use it.

Gypsy often went with her parents to Special Olympics events and in 2001, Dee Dee claimed Gypsy was named the Honorary Queen of the Krew of Mid-City – a child-oriented parade held during Mardi Gras in New Orleans. At the same time, Dee Dee was claiming Gypsy was 8 years old, even though she was in fact 10.
