Ryve Genesis Channel Intro Video

What is the purpose of this channel? Well long story short, this channel is going to be an Ashes of Creation channel, focused on small-scale PVP strategy, builds, and tons of gameplay. Stick around after the intro for the details.

I am a huge fan of MMO PVP, and Ashes is being built to have an incredible PVP foundation. I prefer MMO PVP over PVP in other genres, despite the many drawbacks that are involved. Yes, balance is very often an issue, and yes PVP is often not the devs focus. But, the intense chess match that goes on when in a small-scale PVP fight in an MMO is not present in any other genres. I love the cooldown management, the awareness of enemy cooldowns, properly rotating CCs, the counterplay of when to use dispells, and CC removal. The holy trinity aspect.

All of this creates very complex gameplay that has infinite replayability and is very difficult to master. I enjoy the complexity and I don’t get the same feeling when playing MOBAs or even team-based shooters like Overwatch.

I also prefer smaller scale PVP in MMOs, over the zerg mechanics of the larger scale PVP. Large-scale PVP is fun, don’t get me wrong, but the mechanics of the fights change completely. It becomes less about player skill and more about properly moving your group around the battlefield. Having scout teams analyzing where the enemy is, becomes invaluable. With this information, a good leader can make sure he is engaging the enemy with superior numbers. Military tactics like Pincer moves can be key. Individual rotations become less important, in fact in a lot of cases each class is just spamming a few skills during the fights. As I said, it is much more about positioning and group compositions, versus individual skill.

But in small-scale, open-world encounters, and certainly, in the arena, that is where individual skill becomes paramount. That is what this channel is going to focus on, how to get highly skilled at your chosen class for arenas and small-scale open world. Min-max for this niche is very different from Min-Maxing for large-scale PVP, or for PVE. So, hopefully for those of you out there interested in talking about that kind of content in Ashes, I can be a good resource for you.

I do have Alpha 1 access, so I will be giving you an early look at the game and will continue to post gameplay from Alpha 1. Once Alpha 1 goes down this week, there is going to be a lot of downtime where I won’t have access to play the game, other than maybe some spot tests, until Alpha 2. I may not be able to share this gameplay depending on whether or not they put these tests under NDA. There really is not enough in Alpha 1 to get too wild with Min-Maxing builds just yet, so I am not going to get too crazy with that yet.

During the downtime I will be playing other games, New World I will play, but I will probably not stick with it for long, as I don’t think the PVP is very well designed. Lost Ark definitely has piqued my interest, so I do intend to sink a decent amount of time into that one.
