What I did not know for summer time crappie, jigging crappie on structure

Fishing the heat of the day till dark on standing timber for crappie. I am using a 10ft h20 rod from Academy and 1/16oz squirt jibs from bass pro.

Last year I have a kid come fish beside me on a bridge, I was getting hits, but not hooking up. While he caught over 30 fish right next to me. He was using a hand tied jig that was tiny 1/64oz, I found the squirts and tried them. I instantly started catching more fish on the timber than I ever had before. Now after spawn I always switch to a much smaller jig to keep catching fish.
