Abortion, Roe vs Wade & Canada with Tabitha Ewert & Jakki Jeffs

Roe vs Wade, the famous US Supreme Court ruling on abortion (1973) was over-ruled as unconstitutional yesterday, June 24th.

The events in the USA have already been impacting the conversation in our nation of Canada even though Canada has a very different legislative reality on the issue.

In 1988 the Supreme Court of Canada struck down the abortion law at the time and tasked Parliament to bring forward a new law.

No Parliament has yet done this, and therefore there is no law on abortion in Canada.

In the absence of a law, anything goes. This means, technically, abortion is legal in Canada up until full term birth, at taxpayers expense and for any reason.

It is clear that most Canadians, pro-life as well as pro-choice, are uncomfortable with full term abortion in the case of a healthy child and pregnancy.

In anticipation of the Roe vs Wade announcement, last week I sat down with Jakki Jeffs of Alliance for Life and Tabitha Ewert of We Need A Law. Both of them have been watching this issue closely for decades.

We discussed the case, Canada's laws and the possible implications of what is happening in the US on our nation.

This is scheduled to air across Canada tomorrow on TV but we are posting it here a day early in light of yesterday's announcement.
