Dogs mission to retrieve toy from water results in round of applause

A determined dog called Stella was cheered along as she repeatedly tried to retrieve a floating toy that was stuck in tidal waters.

Footage shows beagle-like Stella's owner encouraging her onto steps leading to the water to retrieve a toy that's floating just out of reach.

A large audience of onlookers quickly gathered on the waterfront in Halifax, Canada, and cheered her on with "oohs" and "aahs" as she narrowly misses the chew toy at every attempt.

But Stella endured the constant near misses but refused to give up until, with the massive cheer from the crowd, she eventually managed to bite onto the bright-purple toy.

The crowd of onlookers, who were rooting for the pooch the whole time, gave it a well-deserved round of applause as its owner Trish rewarded Stella with a treat.

The video has racked up over six million views on TikTok with over one million likes on top of that.

The filmer said: "It was beautiful. Especially after the last few years it was nice to see everyone to come together to cheer for the doggie.

"It warmed my heart. Figured it would get others too. The dog's name is Stella. Her owner's name is Trish. I hope Trish gets to see this."
