What can you expect when you attend your Social Security disability hearing?
Will your "court experience" be similar to what you see on TV dramas like
"Perry Mason" or "Law and Order?"

As I discuss in this video, #SocialSecuritydisabilityhearings are nothing like what you see on TV.

This is especially true in the time of COVID where hearings are actually conducted by telephone,
with everyone - you, the judge, your attorney, the vocational witness and the hearing reporter all calling in from their homes.

Whether your hearing is conducted in person or over the phone, you will find that every part of your hearing is very informal. There is no bailiff or courtroom security officer. The rules of evidence are relaxed and most hearing offices are located in office parks. Most importantly, there is no opposing counsel representing Social Security.

While your hearing is serious business in that you need to prepare with your lawyer so that you give yourself the strongest chance to win, you should remember that you are not on trial for doing anything bad.

Instead, your hearing is your best chance to demonstrate to the #disabilityjudge that you are truthful and that your decision to pursue #disabilitybenefits is truly a last resort. You will be able to explain to the judge why you can no longer work and answer any questions he/she may have about your medical treatment.
