Agencies like the BATF have been abusing their authority for decades under a rule called chevron deference. This allows agencies a lot of latitude in "interpreting" laws passed by Congress. With this latest decision, it would seem the SCOTUS is limiting the boundaries of these agencies and what they can and cannot do without an act of Congress.
