What is Happening Up There - Part 1
What is Happening Up There! - Part 1
Something spectacular and remarkable is happening in space almost all the time. We miss most of the spectacular events because of the sheer size of the Universe, but some of them are captured or observed by satellites, space telescopes, or rovers. In the first part of today's video, "What is Happening Up There" we will give you 3 space events that you probably didn't know about. Let us start right now.
#1. Incredibly Bright and Extremely Magnetic.
An Australian student has observed an extraordinary phenomenon in space. The phenomenon is caused by a spinning object which defies all logic. The object releases bursts of radio energy after every 18.18 minutes. Until today nothing like this has been found before.
After further investigations, it was found out that the object is 4000 light-years away from earth and it is incredibly bright and highly magnetic. The object doesn't have enough power to generate radio signals every 18.18 minutes. Experts suggest that there could be few options about the nature of the object. It could be either a magnetar, a white dwarf, or a signal by another life form. We can only wait until experts do some more drilling to find the object's true nature.
#2. The Mightiest Black Hole Ever Found.
Galaxian channel has created several videos on black holes in the past. Check your screen in the upper right corner to find the link about those videos.
We keep on updating you as experts and researchers find out something new and incredible about black holes.
Every space enthusiast knows that black holes are insanely huge. Blackholes have been found with a mass equivalent to millions of suns but recently scientists have discovered a black hole whose mass is equal to 34 billion suns.
The black hole has been named "J2157" and it is 8000 times more massive than Sagittarius A, our local black hole. Furthermore, if we replace our sun with "J2157", it will cover the whole area of our solar system.
"J2157" was picked up by a Hawaiian Keck telescope and a telescope in Chile. No black hole has been ever reported as huge as that.
"J 2 1 5 7" is located in the center of quasar and it consumes the mass equivalent to 1 sun every day.
#3. VY Canis Majoris, The death of a star.
Hypergiant VY Canis Majoris is possibly the largest star in our galaxy and it is only 3009 light-years away from Earth. Even though hypergiants are brighter and more massive than the sun but they lose their mass more rapidly than other stars. Because of its size and proximity to earth, it is one of the most observed stars.
Since VY Canis Majoris is deteriorating fast as all hypergiants do, it is estimated that sometime in the future we may watch him dying and that phenomenon will give experts a wealth of data to understand the natural cycle of hypergiants.
