Coupled with the government’s inaction, the poor were unable to shrug away the woes of poverty their entire lives. They had little choice but to demean themselves to make a pittance through menial labour. Even though politicians and idealists all talk about economic freedom and equality, the distribution of resources among ethnic groups was uneven from the beginning. Discrimination was prevalent, and life was unfair.
