Lydia McGrew Answered! On Paraphrase

Part 3 in a series of 8. Mike Licona gives attention to Lydia McGrew's contentions that historians in antiquity would not have employed the exercises (progymnasmata) taught in the compositional textbooks by Theon, Quintilian, and others. McGrew's book "The Mirror or the Mask" is largely a critique of Mike Licona's book "Why Are There Differences in the Gospels? What We Can Learn From Ancient Biography" (New York: OUP, 2017). But it is also a broad scale critique of the widespread opinions of classicists and New Testament scholars that ancient historians used compositional devices.

Because Mike usually has no interest in "in-house theological debates," he has refused to respond for the past few years. However, the division in the Body of Christ this in-house debate is causing and the many continuous requests he has received to reply to McGrew has led to his decision to offer this response.
