- I can't find any reference to any book or series by Hughes that this might be related to

The Return of the Mage by Charlaine Harris
- Takes place in her Sookie Stackhouse setting

The Vampires Karamazov by Nancy Holder
- I can't find what, if any book series by this author that this takes place in

The Necessity of Practical Magic by Jennifer Brozek
- This occurs in the same setting as Borzek's The Karen Wilson Chronicles
