How to set up a chain to properly tether a dog
When using a chain to tether a dog, it is important to set up it up properly so the dog has access to a large area, and as seen in the photo link, the dog is still able to move very easily as long as you don't use a chain that is too heavy. If you have a high energy dog, and it is not active on the chain spot, you have a chain that is too large. Please do not make that mistake. I explain how to properly set up a chain tether for your dog to an anchor point for this reason. Doing this properly is important for your dog’s safety and also for the safety of others.
NOTE: I forgot to mention in the video that if you use CONCRETE in the hole to anchor the chain (instead of the truck axle), you will need to dig a hole about 10" wide and 2 feet deep.
I recommend 1/4" high tensile strength for dogs under 60#, 5/16" high tensile strength for dogs between 60-100#, or even larger if well maintained, and 3/8" high tensile strength for dogs over 100#.
