May 9th hard freeze...and sprouting lima beans

Hello, this is Lori Fiechter showing our preparations for the hard freeze (and one fail...) We covered the sweet corn just sprouting with mulch; covered the onions with a sheet, and I covered the few plants I'd put out with a sheet. I should have used a bucket on the scented geranium...it was hurt badly, even with the sheet covering. It didn't look too bad the same day of the freeze but 24 hours later, the damage was more apparent. I'm just thankful that most of our plants are safe in the warm shed--and they will have to stay in there until Tuesday as the forecast is for two more nights around 34 degrees. We had a mild winter, but spring is canceling out those benefits. Fruit tree damage will be apparent in a few more days. I know the saying "don't cry over spilt milk" but what about crying over frozen peach blossoms (cherry? pear? apple?) There is nothing like the weather to keep us humble--realizing we are not in control after all.

On the positive side, the lima beans Stan planted have a good stand--the ones in the cooler came up much faster than the other two receptacles. No idea why!
